Founded in 1899 by Edoardo Bianchi, the Bianchi Company produced great vehicles until the 2nd World War, when most of the factory was destroyed. A motoring boom in the 1950’s saw the birth of a partnership between Bianchi, Fiat and Pirelli to produce a small car of high class and quality to compliment the launch of the more basic and cheaper Fiat 500N in July 1957.
In 1955, Autobianchi SPA was born. 2 years later the first car to carry the Autobianchi name was launched at the Milan show: the Bianchina Trasformabile. It was utilising the running gear from the Fiat 500N, but with a very attractive coupe style body, with a full roll back roof.
The car was well accepted and was an instant success. About 30,000 were produced in different Series. Unfortunately not many remain today, especially of the early cars.

The car on offer is a very early, rare, and highly collectable Autobianchi Bianchina Trasformabile 1st Series, Chassis 110B*001835, with original 479 cc matching number engine, first registered in Rome in 1958, and owned by the same family from new. The body is a 2 tone, finished in Rosso Red (359) with the roof in Amaranto (358), original factory colour combination (as in the launch brochure), with Red and Ivory interior and covered just over 56,000 km (about 35,000 miles).
The car was put in storage for a long time until a full restoration was commissioned by the owner in 1996. All the work was carried out to a high standard by professional restorers in Rome, reusing and refurbishing 90% of all the original parts from the car. Since then it’s been stored in a temperature controlled garage, started and run regularly and covered less than 100km.
The car is in outstanding condition and probably one of the best in the world.
Since arriving to the UK earlier this year, it’s been detailed, including new white wall tyres, brakes overhaul and engine tune up. It’s had a NOVA registration and can be registered in the UK without issues if required…although original ‘’ROMA’’ plates look great and will stay with the car. Italian registration document is present with the car.
