J.E. FISHER . Portrait of George Edmund Burry, half-length, wearing black, holding spectacles, oil on canvas, 30 x 25in. Provenance: The sitter's family, by descent. This portrait is said to have been painted by the artist in 1856. The spectacles depicted in the portrait are also sold in this lot, together with a photocopy of the Burry Family tree. As a boy the sitter is said to have in 1804 walked to London from Christchurch, Hampshire to seek his fortune. After an eventful career the sitter was elected a Freeman of the City of London in 1827. He lived for many years in Hammersmith.
