LARGE IATMUL SUSPENSION HOOK FIGURE, MIDDLE SEPIK RIVER, PAPUA NEW GUINEA. Carved and engraved hardwood with natural pigments and shells. A Sepik River hook used to hang food or other items to keep them off the floor and away from rodents.The hook of an ancestor figure has been painted in natural ochres with shell eyes.
