FANCY GOLD-PRINTED ENVELOPE + MATCHING PICTORIAL CONTENTS SENT FROM COLCHESTER; Very unusual 5 Mar. 1840 env. (with gold edging) sent from "Westwood House" (Horkesley) to Cambridge prepaid 1d (ms "PD1") having a fair boxed "No.9" (Horkesley) RH mark on the flap beside a very fine red "COLCHESTER" cds; the original contents include a letter written on fancy pictorial gold-printed paper plus a brief note on pink paper (from the sender's mother). Postally used examples of this kind of fancy paper with a matching envelope are very rare before 1850. Exhibition Item.
