£1,300
A pair of early George III cast silver table candlesticks, reel shaped sconces, knopped pillars, shaped bases with shells to angles, inscribed to the underside Botham's, Salt Hill, 21cm high, William Cafe, London 1761, 958g
Provenance: The inscription would seem to relate to The Windmill Hotel, Salt Hill Slough, a coaching inn often referred to as Botham's after the proprietors. A well documented establishment, the inn is said to have counted the Dukes of Wellington, Pitt the Younger, and Samuel Taylor Coleridge among its long list of guests welcomed.
