LETTER ENDORSED "Not paid" TO FRANCE; Fine 6 Apr. 1814 EL (unsealed) from POW "Croze" "Au Cautionement De Lichfield" to his brother(?) in "Leroux" endorsed "Not Paid" in red by the Lichfield POW Censor and charged "11" on delivery, Croze says that he has just arrived from Portsmouth [see later lot] and reflects on his recent capture; "[I was] Sorry that after having escaped the danger of the battles and those of a perilous voyage I was captured at the moment of happiness upon reaching the port...".
