Johann Moritz Rugendas (German 1802-1858) Portrait of a gentleman (possibly a self-portrait) pencil on English paper (Ruse & Turners 1834 watermark) Stamped 'Veraussert' and dated 1928, inscribed '17429' 'K.Bayrisches Hanszeichnungs-Cabinet' 26.5 x 21 cm, hinged onto a card mount 30 x 24 cm Provenance: Staatliche Graphische Sammlung, Munich, by whom de-accessioned in the sale of 600 Rugendas drawings to J. Walsh Rodrigues in 1928. Purchased by A.A.F. Haigh (Secretary to the British Embassy in Brazil) from A.Hindeisery, Sao Paulo 22 August 1935, thence by descent.
