FRANCE - 1d REDS COVER POSTED FROM FRANCE TO G.B. WITH V. RARE BOULOGNE "FR/2F" IN OVAL: 25 June 1867 env. (flaps torn) to London apparently posted in Boulogne although franked by two pairs of G.B. 1d Reds (pl.76; 1 stamp with fault where over-edge) tied on arrival by London inspector's "50" numerals. Also on the front is a v. fine, very rare Boulogne "FR/2F" accountancy mark matching the equally fine "BOULOGNE-S-MARE" cds, and there are two London cds's (26th June) on the reverse. It appears that this letter was treated as entirely unpaid & so there is a m/s "8" charge also on the front. Exceptional usage with the seldom seen Boulogne accountancy mark. (Salles "Inconnu"; VDL 1258) Cross Reference: OVERSEAS DESTINATIONS, FRANCE, POSTAGE DUE MARKS, 1864-79 1d PLATES
