THREE PHOTOGRAPH ALBUMS, containing over 450 photographs, photo postcards and copies, mostly from Shanghai 1900 - 1912, with a few exceptions from Hong Kong and Japan, subjects include topographical scenes, rivers, floods, bridges, hills, Pagodas, the Shanghai Municipal Police, the Shanghai Mounted Police, Military personnel, British, French and Australian warships, riots, Louza Police Station, the Shanghai Police Cricket Team, walking races, horse races, funerals and Buddhist Monks, other images include the Shanghai 'Sing-song Girls' and gruesome images of beheadings, (Please Note: Due to the graphic content of some of the photographs, we will not be publishing these specific images online, viewer discretion advised, the three lacquered albums measure 35cm x 27cm (2) and 20cm x 15cm, two albums have detached boards, Provenance: The photographs are from the personal collection of Albert Henry Aiers who joined the Shanghai Military Police in 1902. The Shanghai Municipal Police governed the settlement from 1854 to 1943. Over the course of his 35 year career, Aiers was presented with a number of silver gifts and interesting photographs. These items passed by descent from Albert Aiers to his daughter, following her death, the collection was inherited by her children)
