A BRITISH REPLICA OF KARL GOETZ'S LUSITANIA MEDALLION, 1915-1916, presented in the original box, complete with accompanying typed letter to the receiver. Stating at the end 'Replicas of the medal are issued by the Lusitania Souvenir Medal Committee, 32 Duke Street, Manchester Square W.1. All profits accruing to this committee will be handed to St. Dunstan's Blinded Soldiers and Sailors Hostel'. The medal is cast metal showing the original design on both sides depicting the ticket office with skeleton ticket seller & the sinking boat to the obverse. The Lusitania was sunk by a German U-Boat on May 10th 1915, with over 1000 lives lost including, Children, Women & Men. Over 700 were rescued by the heroic efforts of both small & large vessels from the local harbours and those sailing in the area. Dimensions of box: 8 x 8cm, Dimensions of medallion: 5.5cm wide.
