Full length, seated at a table, dressed in clerical grey coat and breeches, a book open upon his lap, a hat and books to his left, signed with initials and dated 1814, watercolour and pencil, principally en grisaille but the face tinted with flesh tones 34.5 x 25cm. Lithograph: By Charles Joseph Hullmandel after Casimir Carbonnier (see NPG D39180) * The sitter was a clergyman in Gloucestershire, the brother of Robert Raikes who was a prominent promoter of Sunday schools. He is commemorated within Gloucester Cathedral.
