Super Star Lot: A fabulous original Teng (b.1914 - d.2008) ink on silk painting. Features a female figure in a romantic style. Signed Teng in batik bottom right. His work is extremely collectable with a batik from Teng selling for €8,800 at Christies. Housed in a wood and gilt frame behind glass. This piece is from a large private collection.
Dato' Chuah Thean Teng was a Malaysian artist who is credited with the development of batik as a painting technique. He is commonly acknowledged as the founder of modern batik art, transforming the notion of batik as craft to its acceptance within the Malayan artworld from the 1950s onwards as a form of modern art.
