1st Midlothian Coast Artillery Volunteers Victorian Officer's helmet. A fine example of an 1878 Officer's Home Service Pattern blue cloth helmet mounted with silvered furniture. Two rose pattern ear bosses support the black velvet backed chin chain. To the front, a silvered Royal Arms; scroll above gun inscribed “First”, the scroll at the base inscribed “Midlothian Coast Artillery Vols”. Leather sweatband to interior with crimson silk edging.
