Irish Royal South Down Regiment of Militia Victorian Officer waist belt clasp circa 1856-81.
Fine rare silver-plated interlocking example by J & Co. (Jennens) with matching numbers to each half. Circlet inscribed ROYAL SOUTH DOWN REGIMENT; seeded centre mounted with crowned VR cypher over bugle. Unusual shamrock ends. Centre polished GC Raised at Hillsborough 1797. Became 5th Bn. Royal Irish Rifles on Friday 1st July, 1881.
