A rare Chinese grey pottery figure of a slender dancing lady with raised sleeves, Western Han Dynasty (206BC-220AD), the figure thickly potted from fine smooth dark grey pottery, with encrustations throughout from burial and later excavation, standing in an elegant, upright dancing pose with her dress wrapped tightly around her and spreading at the base, a belt tied at her waist and her right shoe emerging from the hem, her hands held together within voluminous sleeves which partially obscure her face and V-shaped neckline, her head with fine, strongly modelled features, her hair combed back from a central parting and tied into a large knot at the nape of her neck, 22½in. (57.2cm.) high. * Provenance: Purchased by the current owner from Dragon Culture Ltd., Hollywood Road, Hong Kong, June 2000. Accompanied by a thermoluminescence analysis report by Oxford Authentication Ltd., dated 25th April 2000 confirming that the age is consistent with the suggested period of manufacture.
