LICENCE SIGNED BY KGV: 25 August 1917 four page licence (folded, minor foxing) signed "George R. I." presented to Sir George Russell Clerk KCMG, CB (British diplomat & Privy Counsellor) granting him the right to wear the Insignia of Commander of the Order of Saint Maurice & Saint Lazarus (the second oldest order of knighthood) "...in recognition of valuable services rendered...in the Allied cause.". Embossed coats of arms of the "SECRETARY OF STATE/HOME DEPARTMENT" & "GEORGIVS V D.G. BRITANNIARVM OMNIVM REX F.D. IND. IMP.", and "TEN /SHILLINGS/[crown]/31 8 17" tax stamp.
