Potter (Beatrix), THE TALE OF PETER RABBIT, first edition, second printing, illustrated brown card boards, ink inscription to front free endpaper, colour frontispiece, forty one full page line illustrations, one of two hundred copies privately printed for the author by Strangeways Printers in 1902 following the success of the 1901 first printing (at fault)
Boards show age-related darkening and bumps to each corner. Most pages show age-related darkening (particularly to the edges) some foxing and some staining. The binding is open at the eighth text page ('But Peter, who was very naughty...') and the thirty second text page ('Mr McGregor caught sight of him...') with at least one string broken. The remainder of the binding remains reasonably tight, but is beginning to open.
