£360
Victorian walnut and brass mounted tantalus, circa 1850-70, having three wrythen moulded glass square section decanters with faceted stoppers, each with a modern silver decanter collar, with a base opening to compartments and with a pop out games drawer with cribbage board, playing cards and bezique counters, with brass carrying handles and key, width 35cm, depth 27cm, height 34cm
There are the usual knocks and scrapes to the exterior consistent with age and use. There is a small veneer loss front lower left corner and a further slither veneer loss running along the left hand lower edge. There are nibbles to the upper edge of the secret drawer. There is a slither of veneer loss on the reverse lower left corner. The mounts were originally nickel plated they are all but worn completely.
One of the decanters has some nibbles on the stopper and nibbles around the base of the stopper. This are hidden within the collar of the decanter when set.
Another decanter has further smaller nibbles to the top of the stopper and one to the base of the stopper that sits within the neck.
Otherwise the decanters are good. The stoppers are tight. The collars are all silver and in good condition. The lock has a key that works. The spring mechanism to the compendium drawer works.
No further problems to report. Altogether a nice looking well coloured and well patinated tantalus.
