A 19th Century rosewood two-day marine chronometer by Charles Shepherd, London, the four-inch, round silvered dial engraved ‘Charles Shepherd, Maker to the Royal Navy, 53 Leadenhall St, London,’ numbered ‘505’, with a 56 hour ‘wind/up` dial and subsidiary seconds dial and with gold spade hands, with the fusee movement having a split bimetallic balance to the Earnshaw type escapement, in brass bound twin hinged case with a glaze upper section and flushed side carrying handles. Case measures 20.5 x 20.5 x 22cm. Charles Shepherd is recorded as working at 53, Leadenhall Street from circa 1851 until 1884.
