A VERY LARGE EARLY 20TH CENTURY CHINESE EMBROIDERED SILK AND GOLD THREAD TEMPLE HANGING DEPICTING AN EXTENSIVE BATTLE SCENE AT MANGSHAN MOUNTAIN, HUNAN. Finely embroidered in bold coloured silk threads with warriors on horseback, some bearing flags, centred by a mountain and fortification, on a gilt thread ground, the black silk border embroidered to the top with characters in gilt thread, immortals and Gods, flanked by precious objects, butterflies and insects, the lower border with precious objects, fruits, flowers and vases, alternating with dragons, peacocks, lion dogs and fans, suspending coloured silk thread tassels from net panel, stitched with silvered discs, 70cm x 480cm long

The central panel with the gilt thread ground is in very good order. There are some loose gilt threads and some pulled threads, mainly to the border. Small repairs and slight losses. There is some wear to the border. The colours are bright overall. It requires a proper backing.
