A Second World War Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve group relating to W/O W. Wilson [1051653], comprising a group of late issue (circa 1980s) medals, comprising 1939-45 Star, Aircrew Europe Star, Atlantic Clasp, Defence Medal and War Medal, in box of issue with certificate; together with a black and white portrait, Observer and Air Gunner's Flying Log Book covering the period November 1940 - October 1946, Service and Release Book and RAF notebook. Provenance: Family descent. W/O Wilson was born on 27th February 1922. He served with the RAFVR from 12th July 1940 to 6th June 1946 and worked as a Wireless Operator Air Gunner. His service book states that he completed two operational tours, one in Bomber Command and the second in Coastal Command. Between tours, he was employed as an instructor for new crews on the air operation of wireless sets. In his Service Record and Release book, his Group Captain praises him as 'a good and round aircrew member and an efficient tradesman and warrant officer'
