WITHDRAWN LOT * William Lyons-Wilson [1892-1981] - Still Life with White Gourd and Blue Stocking,:- signed bottom right, inscribed as titled on the reverse oil on board, 38 x 35cm. *Biography Born in Leeds, William Lyons-Wilson's earliest work of note is a 1914 portrait of his mother which is in the family collection. At the start of the War he joined the First Riding Field Ambulance and served in France until his discharge in 1917 when he returned to Leeds. In 1918 he exhibited at Leeds Art Club and in 1926 at The Royal Academy. In the same year his painting Ice Bardale was reproduced in The Studio magazine. He began a teaching career at Sedbergh School and in 1938 became Art Master at Blundell's School in Tiverton, with a similar appointment at King's College, Taunton. Through the 1950s and 60s exhibitions were held at The Redfern Gallery, The Penwith Society of Arts, Cartwright Memorial Hall, Bradford and The Rimmell Gallery in St John's Wood. He retired from Blundell's School in 1968. William Lyons-Wilson died in Tiverton in 1981.
