A pair of unusual 38 bore percussion duelling pistols, originally flintlocks of c 1785 by Robert Wogdon, converted and remounted c 1830, 15½” overall, browned tapered round barrels 10” retaining part of their original Tower private proofs, the flat tops engraved “Wogdon, London”, with scroll engraved breech plugs and Irish registration numbers WM1278 and 1279 beneath the breeches; the flat stepped bolted locks signed “Wogdon”, with scroll engraving on the plates and hammers dating from the time of their conversion; varnished walnut halfstocks with horn fore end caps, rounded chequered butts with flared flat ended pommels, engraved blued steel trigger guards housing single set triggers, and brass mounted wooden ramrods. GWO & near VGC, retaining much original finish (minor knocks to right side of one barrel, both hammer spurs repaired; in their purple velvet lined fitted mahogany case, the lid with rectangular brass escutcheon engraved “J Ferguson Esqr”, containing 3 way copper flask by Dixon, retaining much original finish (internal divider missing from base compartment), wooden loading hammer/rammer, 2 piece cleaning rod, a double ended brass container for caps, a 26 bore steel pincer mould (pitted and cleaned), and with an original written receipt from 1968 for £320.
