A Victorian Etruscan style memorial brooch, comprising a central garnet cabochon measuring 19mm x 12mm, set to an oval yellow metal surround with applied foliate and beaded decoration, vacant compartment with transparent cover to reverse, simple hinged pin and loop fastening, 4.4cm x 3.6cm, weight 18.5gms
Overall condition is good. There is damage to one of the 'leaves', which has some loss (please see pictures). All other bead work and rope work is in order. There is some scratching and light wear to the central garnet, but this is largely in good order.
There is a moderate amount of denting to the reverse, concentrated around the borders. There does appear to be some light pitting also (please see pictures). There is a small crack to the cover of the reverse, right at the border. The purple lining and glass could possibly be later replacements.
