Richard Potts – (Of Railway interest) a large pencil drawing of No. 46235 ‘City of Birmingham’ 4-6-2 Coronation Class, Pacific Type Locomotive drawn by Richard S Potts and dated 1976. The ‘City of Birmingham’ was designed by Sir William Stanier, built in June 1939 and withdrawn from service 12th September 1964 after travelling 1,650,000 miles. The Engine was named ‘City of Birmingham’ in 1945 at a civic ceremony at New Street Station. This type of locomotive was designed for working the fastest and heaviest express trains between London, the North and North West. ‘City of Birmingham’ was presented by British Railways to the City of Birmingham for safe keeping in the City’s Science Museum.
