Max Pietschmann studerede pa Dresden Art Academy from 1883 until 1889.Hans lerere omfattede Leon Pohle og Ferdinand Pauwels.Pietschmann tilhorte malerkolonien i Goppeln ner Dresden, som specialiserede sig i udendors maleri. Han tilbragte to ar hos Hans Unger i Italien, hvorefter han fortsatte sine studier pa Academie Julian i Paris , hvor han primert beskeftigede sig med livstegning.
