A FIRST WORLD WAR VICTORY MEDAL AND MEMORIAL PLAQUE TO A VC ACTION OF THE COLDSTREAM GUARDS. A Victory Medal named to 18935 Pte H. Johnson C. Gds, Memorial plaque to Herbert Johnson. Son of Thomas and Emma Johnson, husband to Elizabeth Johnson of North Shields, Pte Johnson served with 3 Company 1st Battalion of the Coldstream Guards. He was killed in action on the 27th September 1918 and is buried at Sanders Keep Military Cemetery, Havrincourt, this is one of the smaller cemeteries on the Somme with only 135 casualties, his headstone reads 'Ever Remembered by his loving wife', he was 40 years old. Sold with a photograph of his headstone.
Two VCs were awarded to the 1st Battalion of the Coldstream Guards on the 27th September 1918, Captain Cyril Frisby and Lance Corporal Thomas Jackson who, together, led their men in capturing a machine gun, taking prisoners and pushing forward the attack. *CR Normal light surface marks.
