A fine 18th century 8-day multiple bell striking oak cased longcase clock by Joseph Swinnerton with a three-weight driven rolling celestial globe movement. The arched hood features blind fretwork carved with oak leaves, plain pilasters, and brass fretwork panels to either side with red velvet backing. The engraved brass dial features celestial globe above, flanked by gilt brass dolphins, and silvered chapter with Roman numerals, subsidiary second dial and date aperture, with black velvet backing, enclosed by gilt brass winged Putti spandrels. The case features walnut crossbanding and marquetry inlay, the whole on a stepped plinth base with shaped apron and bracket feet. Includes three weights, pendulum, case key and winding key. Dial measures 12”. Total height 7’4” (222cm).
Condition report: The clock has been regularly serviced and, we are informed by the vendors, keeps excellent time. Small loss to top corner of door.
