WITH 1st-TYPE "FALMOUTH/1d/PAID"; 12 Feb. 1840 EL (toned and with loss of text and address along one edge; professionally silked back and front) headed & countersigned for a Marine private "Thomas Perkins...on Board HM Brig Weazle, Corfu" to GB (most of address lost) with a mostly very fine very rare red circular "FALMOUTH/1d/PAID" mark (Willcocks CO 401; thin "1" in "1d" type) which was only used on such prepaid 1d Concession Rate covers arriving at the port and so a form of Ship Letter marking, with a PS; "Please to direct for me 'Malta or elsewhere'...".
