1840 1d Mulready Lettersheet (Forme 1, Stereo A4). Very fine used example sent from London to Ramsgate two days prior to the official first day of use, endorsed after the address "To be left at the Post Office until called for...". Prepaid in cash and Britannia left uncancelled the cover shows a "Osnab.g.h.St/1py P.Paid" receiving office handstamp in black and two red London datestamps for MY.4.1840. A very attractive pre 6th May usage, some minor peripheral imperfections nevertheless a great rarity with only two other lettersheets recorded on this date. Ex Grunin & "Mayflower"; 1998 BPA Cert.
