People and Animals, felt tip pen on verso of paper menu card for The George Hotel Huddersfield, initialled LSL and dated 1971, 25cm x 28cm
Provenance: Gifted by the artist to Angelo Salvini, thence by family descent. Angelo Salvini was the head waiter at The George Hotel, Huddersfield, during the 1960s and 1970s, where Lowry visited regularly to dine. During one of Lowry's visits this drawing was executed on the back of the hotel's menu and given to the waiter as a sign of gratitude.
