A FIRST WORLD WAR BATTLE OF JUTLAND CASUALTY PAIR AND PLAQUE TO HMS QUEEN MARY. A Great War Pair comprising War Medal and Victory Medal named to K.8764 S.J.G. Braisley Act L Sto R. N. With Memorial Plaque named to Samuel Joseph George Braisby. Samuel Joseph George Braisby was born on the 12th September 1890 initially joining up on the 29th September 1910 for twelve years, having previously worked as a Railway Porter. He was killed in action at the Battle of Jutland on the 31st May 1916 whilst serving as Acting Leading Stoker aboard HMS Queen Mary which was sunk on the 31st may 1916. He was brother to Mrs Cook of 59 Darley Street, Leicester. He is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial, he was 26 years old. Queen Mary was a Lion class Battle Cruiser, during the early stages of the Battle of Jutland she engaged SMS Seydlitz and SMS Derfflinger. She was sunk by a direct hit by Derfflinger causing a catastrophic explosion in the forward magazine leaving only eighteen survivors and 1266 others lost. With copied service record *Condition: Cleaned, good condition. Note error in spelling of name on medals.
