A MAGNIFICENT MID 19TH CENTURY EXTENDING D-END MAHOGANY DINING TABLE, with moulded edging, standing on 5 elegant turned, fluted and tapered legs, each on ceramic castors, stamped C & C patent for Cope & Collinson, and with a Joseph Fitter table extending mechanism within, which runs exceptional smooth.
Joseph Fitter was born in 1826, there is a record of an application for a patent in the London Gazette in May of 1861, '1165. To Joseph Fitter, of Birmingham, in the county of Warwick, Machinist, tor the invention of "a new or improved table expander.
This piece has recently been restored and is in excellent condition.
Dimensions: 180cm x 136cm x 77.5cm (L x D x H), when extended the length at the full extension is: 424cm. (the table has an additional 5 leaves: leaf i/ii 56.5cm, leaf ii/iii 38cm, leaf iii/iiii 42.5cm, iiii/v 56.5, leaf v/vi 50.5cm).
