FRENCH P.O.W. CAMP IN SPAIN - RARE LETTER FROM WOUNDED BRITISH OFFICER SEEKING EXCHANGE; Fine 15 Sept. 1809 EL (in French) from "Capt. Charles Boothby" in "Talaveira de la Reyna" (Talavera de la Reina) about 50 miles east of Madrid carried privately (by French military means?) to "His Excellency M. le Marechal Jourdan, Major General de S.M.C. [?Corps de Son Majeste] a Madrid." The writer had been seriously injured (presumably in the Battle of Talavera on 27/28 July 1809 - he had lust had a leg amputated - and sought Jourdan's aid in getting exchanged back to England.
