Lowes-Dickinson, after Emily Eden (1797-1869) - a hand-coloured lithograph - A Shootr-Suwar. Plate 20 from Portraits of the Princes and Peoples of India, published by J. Dickinson & Son, London, 1944, the plate commentary verso - This is the class of attendants on an Indian camp, whose services are of great value in carrying intelligence and dispatches. They will ride on their camels fifty or sixty miles a day, in an emergency, 30.5 x 36cm.
Note: The title is an anglicized form of the Hindi term shutur-savar, meaning camel rider.
