Very rare four case verge pocket watch, by John Ashley, London, for the Turkish market, hallmarked London 1777, having a deep polished consular outer case enclosing a tortoiseshell and silver stud inner case, opening to a hallmarked smaller consular case with decoration echoing the large outer case, maker IR, London hallmark, plain silver inner case enclosing a 30mm enamelled dial, signed to the centre and with Turkish numerals, conforming hallmarks, the back plate signed and numbered 2702, elaborate gilt filigree pillars, the outer case 62mm

Watch currently ticks when wound. The dial is in good condition. The movement case is good but gaps very slightly on one side. Closes crisply. The small consular case is in good condition. Tortoiseshell case is good with the odd one or two silver studs missing. No marks. The outer case has minor light dents and scratches consistent with use and age. Unmarked.
