A manuscript book written and prepared by William Mackenzie Williams. Of Chy-an-Dreath, Newquay, Cornwall. 'The Heraldry of Cornwall, Being the Public and Private Arms of the Nobility and Gentry from the Earliest to the Present time.' First and only edition 1900. An incredibly well researched work, drawing on research from many sources which would have taken a considerable amount of time. Commencing with the Heralds from 1484 to 1900. The Chapters cover; 1. Extinct Cornish Families. 2. The Earls of Cornwall from A.D. 440. 3. The Dukes of Cornwall from 1470. 4. Alphabetcal list of Conrish families ilustrating their coat of arms. 5. List of disclaimers at the last Heralds Visitation in Cornwall 1620. Taken out of John Paul Rylands work entitled 'Disclaimers at the Heralds Visitations (and includes the whole of England),' this work was published at Guildford 1888. 6. General Armoury of the County . Appendices: A list of the families whose pedigrees are to be found in the Heralds Visitations of Cornwall. Cornish wills, Court of Aanterbury. A list of Cornish families who have changed their names. With the bookplate of Wm Mackenzie Williams of the Clan of MacKenzies of Seaforth. The Gaelic Motto ‘’Cuidich n Righ’’ help the king) and Cornish Motto ‘’En Hav Perkou Gu(w)av’’ (in summer, remember winter). The MacKenzies formed the Seaforth highlanders in 1778, hence the bookplate depicts the regiment coat of arms and cap badge. Many notes loosely inserted. 421 pages bound in brown hard covers, half calf with gilt lettering to the spine, a very good copy of an interesting work profuse with 'naive' hand coloured illustrations.
