A Royal Crown Derby part dinner service in the red ‘Aves’ pattern, comprising: four twin handled soup bowls, eight stands, and ten dinner plates, 27.5cm diameter, printed maker’s marks for 1951-1967; with three Royal Crown Derby twin handled soup bowls and stands in the ‘Chandos’ pattern, and a further Royal Crown Derby twin handled soup bowl (29) (at fault)
The Aves service shows variations in wear and fading to the pattern. There are also small variations in the size of the pieces, reflecting the 15 year span of manufacture. All the Aves stands and all the Chandos stands and bowls show surface crazing. One Chandos bowl shows extensive repairs. The unmatched bowl shows a hairline crack. All pieces show surface wear and rubbing to the gilt rims.
