A FINE 1821 PATTERN BALACLAVA PERIOD HEAVY CAVALRY OFFICER'S SWORD AND SCABBARD. With an 89cm long and 2.8cm wide pipe-backed spear pointed blade etched to both sides with VR beneath a Crown and amongst foliage, marked to the ricasso for 'Drury Sword Cutler 32 Strand, London. With a decorative 'honeysuckle' pattern pierced hilt, wire wound shagreen grip and oval stepped pommel. In a steel scabbard with twin ring suspension. 107cm overall. Drury presumably refers to George Drury who was at this address between 1832 and 1851 *Condition: Blade in fine condition with nice clear and crisp decoration, with a layer of grease that appears to have been protecting the blade for many years. Guard slightly rubbed, light dent and discuolouration to scabbard, a good example.
