ERNEST WALDRON WEST (1904-1994). 'The Last Supper', oil on canvas, 72 x 178 1/2in. The painting is believed to have been commissioned from the artist by St Mary's Convent, Worcester in the early 1950's.
(offered for auction on the instructions of the Charity 'Crown of Thorns ') A preliminary sketch for this painting was offered for auction in a sale by Brightwells, Leominster on 9th November 2011, Lot 134.
Ernest Waldron West worked as an artist in Worcestershire for much of his life. A pupil of Sir Frank Brangwyn RA, he became well known as a portraitist working from a studio on Sansome Walk, Worcester. He had wide ranging artistic interests. Apart from portraiture he was also an accomplished landscape, religious and genre painter
