A blue and white Dutch Delft obelisk, late 17th C.

Marked AK on the base for Adrianus Kocx, the 'De Grieksche A' workshop, Delft, 1687-1701.

- Acquired from Aronson Antiquairs, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, in 2005.

A blue and white Dutch Delft obelisk, ca. 1690-1700
Marked AK in blue for Adrianus Kocx, the owner of De Grieksche A (The Greek A) Factory from 1686 until 1701
Painted on the tapering square upper section and the flaring square foot with a ground of floral and foliate sprigs, blossoms, oeils-de-perdrix and dots, the bell-shaped final with icicle and trefoil devices, and the central section molded on each side with a deep scallop shell flanked on the corners by foliate scrolls echoing those painted on the corners of the foot.

Another AK-marked obelisk of larger size (49 cm. [19 5/16 in.] high), decorated with scrolling flowers and foliage, is illustrated in Aronson 2004, p. 76, no. 90; and an example (48.5 cm. [19 1/8 in.] high), marked for Lambertus van Eenhoorn at The Metale Pot (The Metal Pot) Factory, and decorated with 'Flora,' in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, is illustrated in Van Dam 2004, p. 99, ill. 53.
