A framed swatch of a Chinese Mandarin's silk robe, possibly mid 1800's. Purported to have been 'liberated' during the looting of the Summer Palace, Peking during the 2nd opium war in 1860. The swatch shows a full image of a dragon which has been stitched with fine gold and silver threads, with the main background cloth being in the imperial yellow. Swatch measures approx 50cm x 37cm. Framed and glazed.
