A late 18c eight day longcase clock, the 30cm arched brass dial signed William Mortimer, Plymouth, and having seconds and date indicators and a moon phase dial in the arch also indicating high water at Plymouth. The movement has anchor escapement and is rack striking on a bell. It is contained in a fruit wood case with swan neck pediments to the hood and a lattice carved band around the hood above the dial. The dial is flanked by free standing fluted columns with Corinthian capitals and the long trunk door has a pointed arched top. The carved trunk corners are fluted and reeded and the base has a rectangular moulding with indented corners and a shaped bracket feet. Clock stands 218cm h overall.
The dial needs cleaning and re-silvering. The movement seems complete but requires a clean and overhaul. The case is in generally good condition but is missing 3 top finials.
