AUSTRIA (MISSENT TO SWITZERLAND) - HEXAGON "F./32" ON UNPAID COVER TO HOHENEMS: 31 May 1860 E (some wear) from Manchester (cds) "Via Paris, Basle et St. Galle" to "Hohenems, bei St. Galle (Suisse)" but readdressed in red crayon from St. Galle to "Autriche" (because Hohenems is in fact in Austria); with v. fine rare hexagonal "F./32" accountancy mark. There are several backstamps inc. St Galle, Basle (red 2-ring French P.O. cds), Hohenems (8/6) & three Swiss "BAHNPOST" cds's; with research notes covering the complex manuscript rate markings.
