Highgate Cemetery – A box containing several smaller boxes of glass negatives from the estate of the
late Sir Geoffrey Harmsworth, of Thorpe Hall, Lincolnshire. One box contains a number of large
negatives of graves of famous Victorians who were laid to rest in Highgate Cemetery, North London.
These include the graves of Tom Sayers, a bare-knuckle fighter, Michael Farraday, physicist, and
George Wombwell, a menagerist. There are also negatives of Tibetan Hounds, Willingham Hall and
other country houses, portraits of Sir Geoffrey and various relatives, and one box contains three large
negatives still wrapped in pages of the Somerset Edition of the Evening Post, dated Friday, June 8 th ,
1945.
