Unusual 1822 Infantry Officer's Sword With Eagle Head Pommel


28 inch, single edged, slightly curved blade with sharpened back edge point.  Wide fuller. Brass, Gothic guard with crowned "VR" cartouche.  Folding rear panel.  Brass eagle head pommel leading to a plain backstrap.  Shagreen covered ribbed grip.  Contained in its brass mounted leather scabbard.  Lower chape absent.  

Possibly carried by an Officer serving with one of the British Foreign Legions raised to fight during the Crimean War.
