ROYALTY KING HENRY VIII 8th KING OF ENGLAND SIGNED DOCUMENT WINDSOR CASTLE SIR ANDREW WINDSOR 1513
Henry VIII (1491-1547) King of England Document signed 'Henry R' at head, a warrant requiring Sir Andrew Windsor, Keeper of the Great Wardrobe, to deliver various materials- for making into a gown, a doublet and a shirt, as well as a pair of hose and a bonnet, to Richard Twety, on parchment, Windsor Castle, December 6th 1513.'four brode yards of tawny clothe for a gowne at five shillings the yarde and asmoche blake bogie as woll suffise . Item three yards of blake sattyn for a doublet at six shillings and eight pence the yerde.
Item thre ells of lynnyn clothe of twelf pence the ell for a shirte.
Item a pair of hose pure four shillings.
' Richard Twety was a yeoman harbinger in the household of King Henry VIII.
Sir Andrew Windsor (afterwards Lord Windsor) 1467-1543) was Keeper of the Great Wardrobe from 1506 until his death.
He was therefore concerned with all the ceremonies of state, at several of which his attendance is recorded e.g.
Sir Andrew witnessed the marriage of Princess Mary to Louis XII in 1514 and was present at the Field of the Cloth of Gold in 1520 when King Francis I of France and King Henry VIII of England met to strengthen the bonds between England and France.
This order for materials is unusually interesting by the inclusion of the prices to be paid and also by its early date - in only the 5th year of Henry's reign, a year in which he had personally taken part in an invasion of France, just six months earlier at which Sir Andrew Windsor was again present, landing at Calais with the King on 30th June 1513.
