CALCUTTA - PRINTED MATTER COVERS PAIR TO FRANCE WITH CORRECT 1a FRANKING OR UNPAID & DISALLOWED; Fine 8 Mar. 1871 EL (unsealed as per PO regulations) from Calcutta to Lyons "Via Bom[bay]. & Brindisi" with printed "SILK MARKET REPORT" heading and printed contents, having a 1a Brown tied by sender's blue oval mark and a fine blue Calcutta octagon, and so with partly fine red handstruck "15c" mark (only a very low charge; red ink used for cents rather than the black ink used for decimes charges) on the front. There is a faint red Marseille arrival cds on the front and "LYON/LES TERRAUX" & "LYON" cds backstamps alongside a fine blue Calcutta "INDIA UNPAID" duplex. Plus similar stampless 13 Aug. 1870 EL (but sealed) from Calcutta to Nantes "via Bombay & Marseilles" but with the red hs "15c" crossed out (disqualified by being a sealed letter) and charged "20" (decimes) instead.
