BRIAN SHIELDS (BRAAQ) 1951-1997 (A.R.R. will apply)
'Industrial town in the snow, Northern England', Oil painting on panel, 44cm x 59cm, signed - Braaq 75 F.B.A. 'ANN' bottom left, in ornate gilt frame
Condition report – There isn’t a split to the plywood board, it’s a paint issue. There is some black paint loss on figures in lower left quarter, it is where the artist has painted black over a raised area of snow underneath, there is also a similar loss to the corner of a roof of a factory centre right about 1cm.
Provenance – From a deceased estate. The vendor’s parents lived in the North of England, Yorkshire, the father was in management of textile mills, including West Riding Woollen Company, Coates. Their son was staying with them and went to an exhibition of Braaq’s paintings at a hotel in Harrogate in 1975. It appears the artist had taken a function room for some time to display his paintings. The vendor remembers that he had long hair in a ponytail. His parents bought this oil painting and a few drawings (kept by family members). If you would like a letter of provenance, the vendor is happy to provide this.
