Charles I pattern Halfcrown by Abraham Vanderdort (formerly attributed to Thomas Rawlins), silver d. 34.5mm, 6.90g, high relief obverse pattern 1625-6, uniface but with added engraved legends and reverse coat of arms in the manner of (or perhaps by) Simon de Passe. MI 373/266; Bull 695. A letter from the Mint around the time addressed to Lord Conway states "the imbossments are made so high they will not rise in the monies, the monies being so broad and thin as they are now made". This fits the description of these pieces, and so it is now believed by some that they are the Vanderdort patterns (and I agree). They also tend to have been engraved to fill in details, each possibly unique, and some were worn as badges. The present example VF.
